Baxter State Park ME

Baxter State Park is huge and is home to numerous campgrounds and over 200 trails including the trail to the top of Mount Katahdin which is the northern most end of the Appalachian trail. We did not camp in Baxter on this trip but could easily spend a summer here. Most of the trails require a written check in and out to insure all hikers do make their way out again. The hike along Sandy Stream Pond trail leads to a great view of South Turner Mountain This hike leaves from Roaring Brook Campground. This is one of the most picturesque places I have been especially turn the fall color change.

On a side note we drove one and a half hours to get here from Bangor hoping to see a moose. And while we were in  Baxter State Park a moose was seen in downtown Bangor. Never got to see a moose but the hike was worth every step of the way.
