Mount Mitchell
Off the Blue Ridge Parkway

Mount Mitchell was one of our side trips off the Blue Ridge Parkway and offers some great views and my first opportunity to drive through clouds. The mountain is supposedly the highest point east of the Mississippi River. The height is over 6600 feet above sea level. The restaurant was the highest place I have eaten since my Grand Canyon trip and the food was good. Be forewarned that even in July we were glad that the gift shop had sweat shirts and jackets for sale. Being Floridians 62 degrees at midday was cooler than we expected for this trip.
