Artists view of fateful Thanksgiving trip

Gilligans Mound
based on a true story

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
(and what a tale it was)
A tale of a fateful trip
(fate was real busy that weekend)
That started from this little town
(town of Zolfo Springs)
Aboard three tiny ships
(canoes to be precise)

The mate was a mighty bad sailor man
(really really bad)
the skipper brave but unsure
(unsure that the canoes would hold everything)
Six passengers set sail that morn
(a beautiful morning after a freezing night)
For a three day tour
(was great until the underwater tours started)

The water started getting rough
(going over downed trees was the rough part)
The tiny ships were tossed
(tipped is more accurate)
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
(to busy throwing gear into the mud to be afraid)
the gear would all be lost.
(some of it was anyhow, including one canoe, don't ask me how)

The ships set down on the shore of this
(you call it shore I call it mud)
uncharted river mound
(mound was accurate)
with Gilligan
(name changed to protect the guilty)
and the skipper too
(I didn't know they were bringing everything with them)
The Mechanic and his wife
(couldn't find a millionaire)
The red hair models
(sorry no movie stars just childrens clothing models)
The "Rickster" and Terry Lynn
(my nephew and sister)
Here on Gilligans mound

No floats, no plans no trolling motors
(no dry wood, no dry clothes, not even enough beer)
Not a single luxury
(actually if we didn't have so many luxuries we might not have this song)
Like Robinson Caruso
(Robinson didn't have to put up with Gilligan and his vienna sausage cans)
as primitive as can be
(with tents, and air mattresses and a small kitchen and porta-pottie that is)

So join us here each year my friend
(who wants to try this trip more than once a year life time)
Your sure to get a frown
(sorry but smiles were last seen in the canoe that sank)
from eight wet and muddy campers
